Al & Xander had two weeks off for Spring Break. Lucky them! Thankfully, I was able to take off a few days!
We headed to Memphis for a little getaway. We had so much fun! I think it's been 10+ years since I was last in Memphis.
The first day, we didn't do much. We arrived a little before dinnertime. We checked in to our hotel (another GREAT Hotwire deal) then headed out for dinner. We ate at Neely's Bar-B-Que. Have you heard of Neely's? The Neely's have a show on the Food Network. The BBQ was really good and it was very reasonably priced.
When we returned to our hotel room, Xander was so excited to see the NCAA Tournament was on TV. He is quite the little basketball player! We had makeshift goals (trash cans) in our room:
The following morning we drove to Tunica. No, it wasn't to gamble! It was to eat. We ate at Paula Deen's restaurant at Harrah's. It was AWESOME! I absolutely LOVE Paule Deen! It was a buffet, so you know Al loved it. When we first got there, the hostess asked if we'd seen Paula. I told her I saw the Paula cutout when we walked in. She meant THE Paula. Paula had been there for a few days. During her stay she was in & out of the restaurant. I could hardly eat because I was on PAULA WATCH. Needless to say, I didn't see her.
X was not too happy about having
his picture taken with Paula.
Next, we headed to the zoo. We went to the zoo in Gulf Shores while on Spring Break last year. That zoo was scary! We just didn't feel safe. The Memphis zoo was great! We loved it. Xander loved the panda bears. He also liked the tigers. We could've stayed there all day!
Welcome to the Memphis Zoo!
I think he would've played on this little bridge all day!
Tigers.
Penguins.
Panda Bear.
Rhinoceros.
Elephants.
Grizzly Bears.
Scary Dogs (that's what Xander calls them).
Taking a break.
Now, that's an egg.
Of course, he had to ride the panda bear.
Time to leave!
On our last day in Memphis, we headed to The Peabody to see the ducks. Let me tell you, Xander behaved so badly. We were those parents. The parents that you're looking at wondering why they don't do something with their child. Before the ducks came down the red carpet, Xander asked if he could run with the ducks. Ha!
The little meanie.
The Duckmaster.
Do you see the ducks?
Wow! What's that? An egg!
Yep, one of the ducks laid an egg!
The Duckmaster said it was the first time
he'd seen that happen.
After The Peabody, we went to the Memphis Botanic Gardens. We had so much fun playing in My Big Backyard! It was such a neat place!
Here are some of my favorite pics from the MBG:
I'm so glad we were able to get away for a few days. Now, the countdown starts for our summer beach trip. I can't wait!
