Day 1: Arrive in Louisville
I couldn't figure out what was going on with Al. He kept asking exactly when Xander & I would be returning home from out week at Mom & Johnny's. I kept telling him it would be after Tyler's game. That wasn't good enough. He wanted the exact time we'd be home. I was on to him. Something was going on.
Al finally admitted his normal football meeting on Sunday was going to be on Saturday instead. On Saturday instead of meeting for half-a-day, it was going to be all day. I was excited he was going to have Sunday off! Then, he told me he had Monday off! What? No way! He's had football everyday since August, he had two days off! I had already planned to take Monday & Tuesday off; Xander had his 18 month apt, we were going to the zoo, Pump It Up, etc.
Little did I know, Al had called and re-scheduled X's apt and had planned a trip to Louisville! Al had not booked our hotel yet, so I did that as soon as X & I got home. I always look on Hotwire but I never book anything. I'm such a planner and was really worried the trip wasn't completely planned out. But, I figured since the trip was a surprise, why not use Hotwire and let the hotel be a surprise. So, I booked the hotel and was so anxious to see where we'd be staying.
So, where did we stay?
We stayed at the Galt House. It was great! We were downtown and really close to lots of attractions. The room was really nice and we had a great time at the hotel. The best part? It was super affordable...our room was less that $70 per night! I will use Hotwire on future hotel stays!
We didn't get to the hotel 'til around 10. Of course, Xander woke up as soon as we got to the hotel and was ready to go! I think we got to bed around midnight.
Day 2: Ready to Go!
On Sunday, I was so excited! I'd been wanting to go to Louisville for a while and had looked up different places to go, restaurants to try, etc. Even though the trip wasn't really planned, I'd done my planning months ago hoping that we might get to go sometime!
After breakfast, we headed to Starlight, IN. I'd read about Joe Huber's Farm and thought it might be a fun place to go. Let me tell you, we had a blast! We would have stayed longer had I not been worried Xander was going to have a meltdown due to not having a nap. Plus, it was super hot. I think we ended up with farmer's tans.
Anyway, there were hayrides, pumpkin patches, a barnyard, lots of kid rides, fishing, games, food, etc. The perfect place to spend the day!
On the hayride, heading out to the pumpkin patch.
There were fields & fields of pumpkins.
Everywhere you looked, there were pumpkins!
Maybe I'll pick this one.
Or this one.
Could this be the one?
What about this one?
Who knew picking a pumpkin was so hard?
Taking a break from pumpkin picking.
This one would work as a football!
Umm, I can't pick this one up.
Do I have to push, pull & drag my pumpkin?
I'm so over this.
Finally, a pumpkin just his size!
There were wagon loads of pumpkins!
Silly boy!
I like this horse. I don't have to worry about him being thrown off!
Baa Baa.
What's next?
He loved this tractor!
Let's go over there!
Duck Duck Goose
Just his size!
The sign said not to let the goats eat out of your hand...
...Xander loved letting the goats eat out of his hand!
I love these two!
Out in the barnyard.
The mules were very friendly.
So was this guy.
I felt something breathing on me and turned around and saw this overly friendly goat.
We had so much fun! We headed back in to Louisville thinking Xander would take a nap before we headed out for the evening. Wrong! Instead of napping he wanted to play football!
Getting ready to tackle.
Playing center.
Time-out.
(I hate that he didn't have socks on and that he's on the floor! Hotels scare me, especially with all the bedbug stuff in the news. He's not a fan of socks. It's constantly put them on/take them off.
He won the battle and I left them off.)
We were really looking forward to dinner. We walked to a restaurant a couple of blocks from the hotel. We weren't there long before Xander & I headed back to the hotel. He was behaving so badly! Al got our food to go and brought it back to the hotel. Xander was so tired he just wouldn't go to sleep. Al ended up walking him around downtown to get him to go to sleep.
Day 3: Goodbye Louisville
We weren't sure what we were going to do on our last day in Louisville. We just knew we wanted to leave out by early afternoon. We talked about going to the Slugger Museum, the zoo, a Derby tour, etc. We ended up going over to Churchill Downs.
We went to the Derby in 2008 and had a blast! We'd planned to attend in 2009 but Xander was due on 5/2, the day of the Derby. When we arrived at Churchill Downs Xander was asleep, so we decided against the tour. He woke up as we were walking to the car.
After we left Churchill Downs, we still didn't know what we wanted to do. There were things we wanted to do but we knew Xander would not be interested. But, there was one thing that we knew he'd love!
Yo Gabba Gabba! Live! was in Louisville! I knew what time the shows were but I didn't know where it was at or if tickets were available. Plus, I'd looked at going to the Nashville show and it was pricey. Also, I was a little concerned Xander might be scared or not interested. So, I called Mom and she looked it up. We were less than five miles from the Palace. Perfect! Twenty minutes before the show I was sprinting to the box office! We got tickets! I ran out, grabbed Xander out of the car and we ran in. Al parked the car and came in shortly after it started.
The Palace was awesome! We had great seats! I was so excited! Xander did great! He loved it! He's such a fan of Muno (the one-eyed red one).
We had such a fun three days! I could not have planned a better trip! :)
